Pope Francis' health is worsening: the Vatican reported on Tuesday that the pontiff is suffering from bilateral pneumonia and that his clinical condition remains "complex." Last Friday he was admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Policlinic Hospital in Rome apparently suffering from bronchitis. Church sources reported three days later that The diagnosis had changed to a "polymicrobial respiratory tract infection."

The new pathology was discovered this Tuesday afternoon after a chest CT scan, a procedure prescribed by the Vatican medical team and the medical team of the Policlínic Foundation. The bilateral pneumonia requires "additional pharmacological therapy" and, according to the Vatican, "the laboratory tests, chest X-rays and the clinical condition of the Holy Father continue to present a complex picture," but they add that "Pope Francis is in good spirits."

The pontiff was hospitalized after meeting with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, four days ago. Matteo Bruni, spokesman for the Church, reported on Monday that there was no date set for a possible hospital discharge, but that the Pope had spent the night "calm." It was also the moment when it was learned that, despite being in the hospital, he continued to communicate with the parish of the Holy Family in Gaza.

The Vatican has also reported that the pontiff's schedule has been cancelled for the time being until Sunday, but it is still unknown whether he will be able to celebrate the Sunday Angel Prayer in any way.
