A man died this Tuesday at Bergamo-Orio al Serio Airport, in northern Italy, after entering the runway and being sucked into the engine of a plane as it was preparing for takeoff. The plane involved was an Airbus A319 of the Spanish company Volotea whose destination was Oviedo Airport.

The accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. (local time) and, at the moment, the authorities do not know if the victim was from outside the airport or if, on the contrary, the victim was an employee or a passenger. The company issued a statement on its official X account (formerly Twitter) explaining that at the time of the incident, boarding had already been completed and the aircraft was ready for takeoff.
