Alarm at Leipzig airport due to the intrusion of a drone with explosive cargo
A second flying object has impacted a cargo plane while it was trying to land
BarcelonaA drone of unknown origin was detected early this morning at Leipzig airport. The artifact included explosive cargo, which differentiates it from most drones located at European airports since the start of the war in Ukraine. The object has already been deactivated by bomb disposal experts from the German federal police. According to the newspaper Bild, the drone allegedly fell from a Ukrainian plane of the airline Antonov Airlines, but did not explode on impact with the ground because the detonator was damaged.
A second flying object collided with a DHL transport aircraft. The aircraft had to delay its landing and suffered "minor damage" to the front area, according to the German prosecutor's office. The events caused the closure of the runways for two hours.
Leipzig airport is one of the main European hubs for air transport of aid to Ukraine. Two years ago, a parcel bomb from Lithuania exploded at its logistics center. According to the ongoing judicial process in the Baltic country, that shipment was part of a series of similar packages sent by a network of saboteurs allegedly led by Russian secret services.
