Chef Rafa Zafra is about to open Barcelona's highest restaurant inside the Tibidabo amusement park.
Hernández, a restaurant specializing in traditional cuisine and grilled food, has just opened in Sant Boi de Llobregat.
BarcelonaChef Rafa Zafra, of the restaurants Estimar (in Barcelona's Born district) and Amar (inside the Hotel Palace), will open a restaurant in June inside the Tibidabo amusement park after winning the city's competition. It's believed that this could be the highest restaurant in Barcelona. "Right now I don't even know what I'm going to call it, but we're very happy with the project because I want to give back to Barcelona everything it has given me," says a delighted Zafra. The restaurant will have a prime location, with views across Barcelona, and the chef's concept is based on a philosophy: "That children learn to eat like adults, and that parents become like children again." This is the idea he's working with, but construction is currently underway. "We have three months of work planned, but I expect it will be ready in three and a half months," says the Seville-born chef.
Tibidabo isn't the chef's only new restaurant. At the beginning of February, he opened another in Sant Boi de Llobregat. It's called Hernández, and it's a brasserie serving traditional Catalan dishes. He's working there with chef Gonzalo Hernández, head chef of the Amar restaurant. "We use Catalan products, with which we want to pay homage to the land and the tradition of eating in a Catalan farmhouse," says Zafra. The restaurant recently opened and, along with Tibidabo, is one of his latest ventures in Barcelona. In Madrid, where Zafra owns the Rural restaurant, he has also launched new projects such as Bikini Bar (23 Padre Damián Street, Madrid), featuring sandwiches and cocktails, some created by chef friends like Albert Adrià.
Finally, chef Gonzalo Hernández, whose surname the restaurant is named after, explains that at the Sant Boi restaurant they cook cannelloni, Russian salad, capipota with chickpeas, noodle casserole with sausage, ribs and chicken, and above all, many grilled dishes.
Rafa Zafra worked at the El Bulli restaurantFerran Adrià's restaurant, with whom he maintains a close friendship, as well as with his brother Albert. In the spring of 2023, when Bruce Springsteen played in Barcelona, accompanied by privileged friends such as Barack Obama, he chose the Amar restaurant for his meal, which included red prawns among other dishes.
