BarcelonaTravel agencies expect another record-breaking summer for tourism, although they have already detected a "clear slowdown" in demand for visits to the United States. 18% believe they will repeat the same record numbers. Only 11% expect a worse result. just after the protest against overcrowding was repeated in Barcelona on Sunday, the travel industry continues to grow unchecked.
Regarding the specific case of the United States, where the start of Donald Trump's second term has generated misgivings among foreign tourists, the survey shows that 75% of agencies have seen "demand for travel to destinations in this country severely affected." When asked why clients are refusing to travel to the US, 72% respond that the reason is the government's unpopularity, while 28% attribute it to caution in the face of "tight border controls."
While new bookings "have plummeted," clients who already had trips booked are keeping them, and for the moment, cancellations are "not very significant." Regarding the war in Gaza, agencies also observed a standstill in vacation bookings in Israel.
The most popular destinations
This year, ACAVE also asked about the most important factors when choosing a summer vacation destination, with a safe and hassle-free location being the most important. The second most important factor is a good quality-price ratio, and the third is favorable weather. Among the most popular international destinations for Spanish tourists, the association highlighted Asian countries such as China, Japan, and Vietnam, followed by vacations in countries on the American continent such as Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
