The Government announces the opening of a new Acció office in India

BarcelonaThe Minister of Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper, has announced the creation of a second office for Acció, the agency that works for the growth of Catalan companies, in India. This will be located in the country's capital, New Delhi, and is expected to be operational before the end of 2026. Until now, Acció had a single office in India located in Mumbai. With this announcement, the minister begins an institutional trip to New Delhi and Mumbai to increase opportunities and strengthen trade relations between Catalonia and the Asian country.

The arrival of this second office in the country, as explained by Sàmper, is framed within the future trade agreement between the European Union and India, which is pending ratification to come into force. The pact provides for reducing or eliminating tariffs and barriers for 90% of European products exported there. It is expected that, in the case of Catalonia, the agreement will especially favor sectors such as machinery or electrical equipment, chemical products, or pharmaceuticals. It may also benefit the agri-food export of products such as oil and wines. “It is a market that we want to promote,” the minister assured.

The Catalonia-India relationship

According to the latest data from Acció, there are currently 794 Catalan companies that export regularly to the Asian country. Furthermore, there are 67 subsidiaries of 60 Indian companies established in Catalonia, while there are 99 subsidiaries of 72 Catalan companies in India. In fact, the commercial relationship between both countries has experienced significant growth over the last decade. During this time, the Asian country has gone from being Catalonia's 18th largest trading partner to its 15th. Specifically, Catalan exports to India have doubled in the same period, reaching 652 million euros in 2025. For its part, imports have increased by 61% in ten years, reaching 2.135 billion euros.

Acció's studies also predict that, over the next five years, Catalonia will double its exports to the country at an annual growth rate of 20%. In addition to the internationalization of Catalan companies, the New Delhi office will also work to attract investments from the Indian market.
