The Catalan Saplex will invest 11 million euros in the new plant in Canovelles
The company specialized in trash bags and food bags seeks to "reinforce industrial capacity"
BarcelonaThe Catalan company Saplex is undertaking the largest investment in its history. The company, specializing in the manufacture of garbage bags and food preservation bags, will dedicate 11 million euros to adapt its factory in Canovelles (Vallès Oriental), as well as to incorporate new machinery to expand production capacity. Saplex seeks, in this way, to "respond to the sustained growth in demand" for its products.
The company, it should be recalled, acquired the Canovelles plant in 2024. That same year, it launched a major investment, totaling 8.1 million euros, of which 6.1 million were dedicated to new machinery. With the investment announced this Tuesday, Saplex will have mobilized 27.3 million euros in the last three fiscal years with the aim of "strengthening industrial capacity, modernizing processes, and preparing for future growth," as detailed in a statement.
The investment comes after a particularly successful 2025 for the Catalan company. Saplex closed last year with a record turnover of 91.5 million euros, and a profit before taxes of 7.8 million. Looking ahead to 2026, the new capacities could increase turnover by 5% year-on-year. The latest results, the company assures, "consolidate sustained growth and reflect the strength of the model." Last year, Saplex gained nine employees, reaching 157. For 2026, it expects to add 13 new ones, reaching 170, "in line with the increase in production capacity".
Market share
The investments announced this Tuesday, therefore, will serve to continue "reinforcing" the Catalan company's leadership in its segment within Spain. According to the same statement, more than one in every two trash bags sold in Spain have been manufactured by the Catalan company. The 55.5% market share recorded represents an interannual increase of 1.5 percentage points.
On the other hand, they also continue to improve their position in Portugal, where they are growing thanks to the expansion of Mercadona, which already operates 73 stores in the country. Saplex's market share among Portuguese buyers already reaches 20%, a figure that "confirms the growth potential outside of Spain and reinforces internationalization as one of the axes of development".
