On which streets will you be able to see the large Nou Barris art murals?

Barcelona City Council commissions 17 large-scale works to redefine public spaces.

BarcelonaStarting this Wednesday, Barcelona's Nou Barris district becomes an urban art laboratory where local and international artists will create up to seventeen large-format works, including paintings, sculptures, and light installations. The project, titled NOU Sentit Urbà, aims to "generate new attractions in the district and foster a sense of belonging and identity in the neighborhood," according to Barcelona City Council. Therefore, residents can get involved in the creative process. The artists were selected by a committee of experts.

These are the locations of the works in the NOU Sentit Urbà project.

Via Favencia, 230. Jay Kaes, who has worked in more than 20 countries, will paint a mural to promote sport as a tool for unity.

Via Favencia, 224. The work of Ukrainian artist Dima Korma will engage with the environment through the harmony of color, form, and context.

Fabra i Puig Promenade, 370. Spanish artist Doa Oa proposes reforesting this urban space in the lower part of Turó de la Peira.

Aiguablava Street, 7. Basque painter Udatxo reproduces street scenes from photographs, bringing them to life with light and color. Her work is inspired by the women of the Trinidad and, more specifically, by Matilde Climent and the social struggle.

Playa de Aro Street, 23. Portuguese artist Mariana Santos will pay tribute to the elderly with a mural based on archival photographs.

Playa de Aro Street, 19. Russian artist Shozy will create a work about memory using his renowned 3D painting techniques.

Castellví Street, 19. French artist Antoine Guignard will present sculptural portraits made from stripped wood blocks to extract characteristic sepia tones. His work will be a tribute to Carme Vila.

Salvador Puig Antich Square. The work of the Todo x la Praxis collective will include the collaborative techniques that characterize them.

Via Favencia. The work of artist, designer, and photographer Octavi Serra will capture the ironies and frustrations of modern life through a sculpture made from waste. It will be titled Attention: area in the process of touristification.

Via Favencia. The Basurama collective will carry out another project using waste materials.

Nou Barris Library, in the Plaza Mayor of Nou Barris. Artist Spidertag will present one of his interactive works made with neon lights.

Turó Municipal Sports Center, at 50 Sant Iscle Street. The Basurama collective will install a work that aims to simulate the beating of a heart.

In addition, five educational centers in the Ciutat Meridiana and Vallbona neighborhoods will host murals to encourage dialogue with the educational community: the Ciudad Condal School Institute (Pujalt, 6), the Elisenda de Moncada School Institute (Vallcivera, 1), the Ferrer y Guàrdia School Institute, Morera (Perafita, 48), and the FEP Madre Alfonsa Cavín (Avenida Rasos de Peguera, 57).

The project has a budget of 953,000 euros financed with the Next Generation funds of the European Union, within the framework of the Sustainable Tourism Plans Destination Barcelona (PSTDB). The NOU Sentit Urbà project will be carried out by a joint venture formed by Folch Studio, Barcelona Events Musicals, and Rebobinart, which won a public tender for which approximately 838,000 euros were allocated.
