The Premium Cube is interested in biomedical research
This spring is full of proposals from the "club of the unconditional fans of ARA"
They have not toured the entire Barcelona Biomedical Research Park – it occupies a space equivalent to a block in the Eixample! – but only a small part. However, the members of the ARA Premium Club have got a good idea of the intense activity carried out in this prestigious research center specializing in medicine and biomedicine located in Barceloneta, very close to the sea.
Once inside the building, they didn't need to open any doors: there are no controls. Reimund Fickert, director of communication and institutional relations at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, explained to them, both in a meeting room and while walking, the origin of the Park, which was built on land where the Barceloneta football club's ground used to be. "The Park was born with the impetus of the Barcelona Olympic Games, even though many didn't believe in it. David Andreu and Andreu Mas-Colell particularly pushed the project, arguing that research always yields benefits... in the long term".
Currently, 1,700 people work at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. This extremely important research center has a very close link with the Hospital del Mar, which is located just a few steps away. "The Park invoices around 120 million euros each year, but it has been without profits for 20 years!", explained Reimund Fickert.
"This spring is full of activities from the ARA Premium Club. We are doing some that we have done before and were successful, thinking of the new club members, such as bird watching in the Empordà wetlands on May 16th, or the boat crossing of Cap de Creus on June 7th, but most are new", specifies Daniel Romaní, coordinator of the ARA Premium Club.
Last week some members of the Prèmium Club enjoyed a visit to the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, undoubtedly one of the most important in the world regarding maritime heritage, and a beautiful electric bicycle route (32 kilometers along the beaches of the Ter river), thanks to the collaboration ofEbici.cat.
