'The Inheritance' is the big winner of the Critics' Awards

'Love Came by Taxi' and 'Imaginary Operetta', awarded as best musical and best small-format play, respectively

BarcelonaThe show L'herència, directed by Josep Maria Mestres and premiered at the Teatre Lliure in February last year, became this Monday the big winner of the 28th Critics' Awards for Performing Arts. The production has been awarded best show, best direction, and best supporting actor for Carles Martínez. In this year's edition, beyond L'herència, the awards have been widely distributed among the wide range of stage proposals premiered in 2025. L'amor venia amb taxi by La Cubana has won the award for best musical and best costume design, Opereta imaginària by Albert Arribas has been recognized as best small-format work and best dramaturgy, while Leshi, by Atresbandes, has prevailed in the new trends category. The Critics' Awards are organized by the digital platform Recomana and are chosen by active performing arts critics. This year they were presented at a ceremony at the Centre Moral i Cultural del Poblenou.

In the acting field, Oriol Genís has been recognized as best lead actor for his work in Compto cada passa meva sobre la terra and Mariona Castillo has received the award for best musical actor for Germans de sang. Victoria Szpunberg and Albert Pijuan have won the award for best text with La tercera fuga and Mireia Morera has achieved the revelation award for the musical Un refugi al sol. Regarding the more technical categories of the awards, the gothic cabaret A Macbeth Song by The Tiger Lillies has won the award for best music. Marc Salicrú has won the one for best stage design for L'aranyaand Bernat Jansà and Uriol Ireland have achieved the awards for best lighting and best sound design for La mort i la primavera.

In dance, Fugaces by Aina Alegre, has obtained the award for best national show and best choreography, while Cher, by Juan Carlos Lérida, has been recognized as best solo and The Royal Gucci Ball, by Jayce / HOP Festival, as best show in other formats. Likewise, Laila Tafur has won the award for best performance for Maja y bastarda. The award for best family show has gone to La tempesta, by Zero en conducta. Escarlata has received the award for best street arts piece for Ròdols i cigrons and Jovent, by Mambo Project, the Novaveu award. In circus, Tenet by Eunoia Kolektiva has been recognized as best production and Nacho Flores as best artist for Domte.In the international arena, the award for best international theatre performance went to Medea's kinderen by Milo Rau, and the dance award went to My Fierce Ignorant Step by Christos Papadopoulos. During the gala, the Joan Anton Benach Hall award was also presented, which went to the Centre de les Arts Lliures of the Fundació Joan Brossa, and the Gonzalo Pérez de Olaguer honorary award, which went to the director of the Sismògraf festival, Tena Busquets. The clown Pepa Plana was awarded the Maria José Ragué honorary award.
