Sílvia Munt, Víctor Borràs, Oye Sherman and Roger Coma: the new season of Teatre Texas

BarcelonaL’Espai Texas, the project remodeled by architect Francesc Guàrdia with two cinema rooms and a theatre with 200 seats, presents a new season featuring names such as Sílvia Munt, Víctor Borràs, Toni Gomila and Roger Coma, as well as figures from the humorous scene such as Oye Sherman and Andrés Fajngold. The theatre located on Bailèn street in Barcelona bets on contemporary Catalan dramaturgy and will revive successful titles such as La pols, by playwright Llàtzer Garcia, awarded with the Premi Crítica Serra d'Or.

The theatre closes its best season since its remodeling in 2023 with over 64,000 tickets sold, 23% more than the previous season, and 420 performances with a 76% average occupancy. The shows Permagel and Loop have been the most successful, with 87% occupancy, followed by plays such as El principi d’Arquimedes and Ovelles.

Among the highlighted proposals for the 2026-2027 season is the original musical in Catalan Després de nosaltres, written and directed by Jumon Erra, starring Júlia Jové and Xavi Navarra, and with original music by Miquel Tejada. Després de nosaltres, which was already programmed in late July during the Grec Festival, will return to Espai Texas from September 22 to November 15. And from March 30 to May 30, Bona nit, poncelles will premiere, a black comedy by playwright Víctor Borràs directed by Xavier Ricart and starring actresses Mireia Aixalà, Gemma Brió, and Maria Morera. The play explores the secrets of two sisters who must decide what to do with their mother's inheritance when, suddenly, a third woman appears claiming a share.

One of the highlights will arrive with actress and filmmaker Sílvia Munt, who will direct La pols a decade after its premiere at Sala Flyhard. Adapted for cinema and brought to the Teatro Fernán Gómez in Madrid under the title Cenizas, the play returns to Catalonia for the first time since that initial production in 2014. The new production can be seen from January 28 to March 21.

Reclaiming local theatre

The Teatre Texas will give more life to successes born in local theatres to “give sustainability to the sector” and to “bring texts that deserve more recognition to a wider audience”. For example, Desparellats, a musical comedy already in theatres until December 20; L’estiueig, an adaptation of Carlo Goldoni's trilogy that the company Els Pirates Teatre premiered at Sala Maldà, and Rita, by the playwright Marta Buchaca, who already presented the play Kramig at the Texas.

On the other hand, the programme also includes a new revival of Fairfly, La Calòrica's comedy about start-ups and the entrepreneurial culture written by Joan Yago, which celebrates its tenth anniversary, and can be seen from May 28. Also celebrating an anniversary is Acorar, the first play by the Mallorcan actor Toni Gomila, which returns fifteen years after its premiere. Conceived as a short monologue, the play was awarded in the Balearic Islands thanks to its reflection on language, memory, and the loss of identity.

A space for humour in Catalan

The venue continues to bet on monologues in Catalan. Humorist Maria Rovira (Oye Sherman), who recently wrote a section called Retorn al videoclub, will premiere Una història certa sobre la mentida as part of the Festival Clàssics. El Texas will also host actor Jordi Boixaderas, who will read texts by the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and journalist Eloi Vila, with a monologue-talk about the Civil War directed by Fel Faixedas. As is customary, the theater will offer humor nights on Thursdays and Saturdays with titles such as No ho hauria de fer, the first monologue by actor Roger Coma; Grosso modo by Andrés Fajngold, and Eix transversal, by Alba Segarra and Godai Garcia.
