BarcelonaThe North American healthcare system forces many people to go into debt to receive medical treatment. For this reason, families sometimes launch crowdfunding campaigns through websites like Go Fund Me to cover medical expenses. One of the anonymous donors to these campaigns is one of the protagonists of the comedy The Big Bang Theory, Kunal Nayyar, who for 12 seasons played the character of Rajesh Koothrappali. As revealed in an interview with the British newspaper iNews, which has now gone viral on social media, one of his hobbies is to use the fortune he made from the series to help causes he deems important. "Money has given me the greatest freedom and the greatest gift is the ability to give back, to change people's lives," says the actor, born in the UK but living in the United States for years.

He and his wife, former Miss India Neha Kapur, have funded scholarships for disadvantaged youth and support animal welfare causes. However, Nayyar says that one of his greatest joys is being able to help families who have financial difficulties accessing medical treatments. "What I really love to do is go on Go Fund Me at night and pay the medical bills of random families. That's my anti-fascist justice system!" says the actor, who says that in this way he feels that money "is a blessing from the Universe".

During the time that The Big Bang Theory was on air, Nayyar and his castmates were the highest-paid actors on television, earning up to a million dollars per episode. In both 2015 and 2018, the magazine Forbes ranked Nayyar as the third highest-paid actor on television, with annual earnings of $20 million and $23.5 million, respectively. In early 2026, the magazine Fortune stated that the net worth of the 44-year-old actor is $45 million. After The Big Bang Theory, the actor has continued his acting career in both film and television.

Nayyar's interview has resurfaced following the death of James Van Der Beek and the campaign that the actor's family launched on Go Fund Me due to financial problems arising from medical bills. So far, they have managed to raise $2.6 million. Famous donors have participated in the campaign, including Steven Spielberg, who made a donation of $25,000, and actress Zoe Saldaña, who pledged to make a fixed monthly donation of $2,500.
