Rosalía, awarded as best international composer
The singer from Sant Esteve Sesrovires receives one of the most prestigious awards in the industry in London
BarcelonaRosalía has been awarded this Thursday in London with the Ivor Novello award forinternational songwriter of the year, one of the most prestigious in the music industry, which recognizes her career and places her among the most outstanding figures in the musical Olympus. In previous editions, artists such as Paul McCartney, Elton John and Adele have received it. Rosalía has thus achieved a new historic milestone at 33 years old.
"The fourth album panicked me"
During her acceptance speech, Rosalía denounced the inequalities within the music industry: “I know there will be countless composers who will not be recognized as they deserve because they are not middle class, white, European.”
The singer also acknowledged the creative pressure during the making of her latest album, Lux, a work that took three years to complete. “The idea of writing my fourth album filled me with panic – she admitted –. I needed three years to write this album, and I was aware of the possibility of being canceled by others,” she added.
At the ceremony, held at the London hotel JW Marriott Grosvenor House, other artists were also recognized, such as the British Sam Fender, distinguished as songwriter of the year; the Irish CMAT, who received the Ivor Novello for best album for Euro-Country, and the late George Michael, who posthumously received an academy fellowship.
