Yolanda Díaz rejects retracting comments about Julio Iglesias, who threatened to sue her
BarcelonaYolanda Díaz has not wanted to retract the comments she made about Julio Iglesias following reports accusing him of sexual harassment. As reported by Eldiario.es, the second vice president and Minister of Labour has maintained her statements at the conciliation hearing that took place this Tuesday in a Madrid court. In February 2026, after the investigative report was made public, the Spanish vice president condemned on TVE the sexual assaults for which the singer was being investigated and called for "firmness": she was in favor of withdrawing Iglesias' medals because she maintained that his behavior "requires exemplary action". "One thing is criminal responsibility and another is responsibility of an ethical nature," she justified.
After these words, Iglesias filed a lawsuit requesting a conciliation hearing in which Díaz would acknowledge the damage caused and rectify the statements made on social media and in the media.
Díaz argued this Tuesday that her statements did not cause "any harm either directly or indirectly to the artist". Furthermore, she considers that her statements were limited "to commenting on third-party statements and the content of press reports published about Julio Iglesias", for which reason she does not believe she has slandered or defamed the singer.
The conciliation hearing is the step prior to filing a lawsuit. According to Eldiario.es, Julio Iglesias' lawyers have not yet made public what steps they will take after Díaz decided not to retract her words.
