BarcelonaThis Thursday morning, the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid was the setting for what some considered a state affair. A crowd of journalists gathered outside the hotel to witness the presentation of Bárbara Rey's memoir: I, Barbara (Plaza & Janés). Her long and controversial affair with King Juan Carlos I, her relationship with her son, Ángel Cristo, and her relationship with some of the most prominent figures in the Spanish media scene are the pillars of the book.

"There are faces here I haven't seen for a century," she began, addressing the journalists who came to the presentation of a book that confirms that the starlet still has much to say, despite her years of television talk shows. In the 400 pages of the book, Bárbara Rey has dedicated herself to explaining what she considers her "truth": "Everything written here I have told; what has been written before has been told by others."

Despite having assured during the presentation that his life "is not limited to one person, far from it," the presence of the emeritus king took only a few minutes to appear when Rey lamented the last-minute change of location that the presentation had undergone. "I don't know what happened, only that the presentation was supposed to be there [at Casa América] and in the end they came up with a rude excuse to tell me no," she explained about the change of location for unknown reasons. Later, as if by chance, the now also author asserted: "I've slept more in doorways than in the palace." And she added that she has only been passing through the Royal Chambers.

But this has been only one of the questions that have revolved around the new installment, since journalists have been quick to ask about the legal consequences that the publication could have. "I have to say that I'm not a person who is afraid because many terrible, very dangerous things have happened to me, due to which we might not be here right now. As for what the king could do with my book... He's part of my life, since he entered there many years ago and, therefore, he's part of my life and I'm part of his. Not in terms of fear. Generous and understanding." Ana Rosa Quintana has directly emphasized the possibility of receiving a lawsuit, but the showgirl has been blunt: "It's more than proven that when measures of this type are taken, as has been the case with Revilla, things don't turn out very well for him."
