Windy conditions at both ends of the country and possible downpours on the central coast
Temperatures more typical of autumn, with rain expected midweek
BarcelonaThe passage of a weak front has brought cooler air from behind and renewed the warm air mass that had kept temperatures 4 to 6 degrees above what would be expected at the end of October and around All Saints' Day. Today the weather pattern has changed with the arrival of the Tramontana wind, which was already exceeding 80 km/h in the Empordà region and 70 km/h in the Camp de Tarragona. The north and northwest winds in both areas will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures, more noticeable tomorrow. Showers accumulated up to 10.5 l/m² throughout Sunday.2 in Badalona and accumulations of between tenths of a liter and 4 mm in regions such as Maresme, La Selva, Gironès, Pla de l'Estany or the Pyrenees of Lleida (at the end of this information we add the most outstanding records of precipitation).
Monday: colder weather and wind at both ends
This Monday, the sky will remain mostly clear, except along the central coast and the southern Costa Brava. The downdraft generated by the Tramontana wind will bring dense clouds from the Mediterranean, and some showers are possible off the coast, potentially reaching the shoreline. Meteocat has issued a warning for heavy rain due to the possibility of downpours accumulating 20 mm in less than half an hour.
The rest of the region will remain clear or with only a few thin clouds. The cool nighttime conditions inland will generate mist and radiation fog, which will appear in the plains of Ponent and Central Catalonia, as well as in some pre-Pyrenean valleys.
Maximum temperatures will be somewhat restrained, with values not exceeding 20°C in many areas. In the Ponent region, they will remain around 17°C, and in the Pyrenean valleys, they will not surpass 15°C.
The nights will remain cold, especially tomorrow and Tuesday, with temperatures ranging between 1 and 3 °C and even dipping below 0 °C in some Pyrenean valleys. Above 2000 m, the temperature will drop to -3 °C. Inland, temperatures will range between 4 °C and 8 °C, and along the coast, they will fall to around 12 °C. At least we'll have a more autumnal feel than we do now.
More active front ahead of Thursday
Medium-term forecasts indicate the arrival of a more active weather system that will cover the entire region by Wednesday. This front will be accompanied by cold air aloft, causing precipitation to intensify and initially fall in the western and southern parts of the country during the early hours of Thursday, eventually sweeping across the rest of the region. Locally, moderate to heavy showers are possible, with significant accumulations. We will continue to monitor the weather models to see how the situation develops. Temperatures will recover with the arrival of southerly and southwesterly winds.
