Thermometers hit the ceiling and the extreme heat will continue until Sunday

BarcelonaThe unbridled heat continues to bring temperature records. This Friday, 34.1 °C was recorded at the Fabra Observatory, the highest maximum since 1914 in a September in the city of Barcelona. In Ponent and the interior of the Ebre, they have roasted once again, reaching a suffocating 42.5 °C in Vinebre (Ribera d'Ebre) and up to 39.3 °C in the city of Lleida, the highest maximum in September since 1939.

And we will continue talking about extreme heat throughout the weekend. The temperature will be between 33 °C and 36 °C in many regions. 36 °C will be reached in many inland points, with heat unusual for these dates. Values similar to those recorded this Friday in Ponent and the interior of the Ebre valley are expected, where temperatures could once again exceed 40 °C. We will continue with tropical nights in many regions, especially on the coast, the pre-coastal area, and in Ponent, with torrid values (equal to or greater than 25 °C) on the central coast.

Everything seems to indicate that this atypical heat for these dates will come to an end on Sunday. From Monday, cloudiness will increase with the approach of a colder mass that, between Tuesday and Wednesday, will leave thunderstorms and cause the thermometer to drop everywhere.

Saturday of intense heat

Torrid heat day with morning cloud intervals on the Costa Daurada and in the Ebro, with some decorative cumulus in the afternoon in the Pyrenees. The mercury will once again reach highs of 37 °C or 38 °C inland, with some new local records of 40 °C in Ponent or in the interior of the Ebro. The weather will remain calm, with clear skies and only the presence of some thin clouds, as well as some afternoon cloudiness, which will not leave any precipitation.

Meteocat has issued a danger warning for intense heat for Friday and Saturday that covers a large part of the regions of Ponent, Central Catalonia, and the south, and even some regions of the pre-coastal area or the central coast.

Sunday with more clouds, but still warm

The arrival of some cold air at altitude will cause more cloudiness to grow on Sunday, but this will not prevent the thermometer from continuing to rise. Early in the day, low clouds will appear along the southern coast, which will accentuate the feeling of mugginess. This cloudiness will dissipate quickly and give way to a radiant day. In the rest of the territory, there will be the passage ofthin clouds that will become thicker during the afternoon in Ponent. This cloudiness will slightly dampen solar radiation in some inland regions and thermometers may be held back a little more. It will be intensely hot but not as extreme as this Friday's. Despite everything, they may still reach 39 °C in Ponent and in the interior of the Ebro.

Monday will be hot, but not as extreme. Starting Tuesday, temperatures should begin to normalize, and some thunderstorms could appear in the Lleida Pyrenees. In fact, models indicate strong thunderstorms for Wednesday in many areas. With the arrival of the colder air mass at high altitude, the atmosphere will normalize and cool down, especially inland and in the Pyrenees. Nights will also be cooler along the coast.
