The sun is shining, but watch out for the wind.
The wind will be very strong in the far north of the country
BarcelonaAfter a few relatively calm days, Saturday was a day dominated by instability, with a brief but significant return of cold and rainy weather (you'll find some precipitation data at the end of this report). The change in weather quickly passed, but this Sunday we'll end the week with strong winds in some areas, and temperatures will gradually try to recover over the coming days. However, the sun will soon reclaim its leading role.
Sunday: strong northerly wind
It will snow on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees until mid-morning or midday, but no precipitation is expected for the rest of the day, with sunshine in most areas, a stark contrast to Saturday's weather. However, the main news will be the strong mistral and tramontana winds blowing in many places. Strong to very strong gusts are expected in the Empordà region and on the peaks of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, where a blizzard and freezing temperatures will make mountain travel highly inadvisable. Winds in these areas could exceed 100 or 110 km/h. Significant gusts are also expected in the southern half of the region and in some Pyrenean valleys, while the wind will be more moderate in the central part of the country. Meteocat has issued a high wind warning for several northern regions, reaching level 5 out of 6 (red) in Berguedà, Ripollès, and Alt Empordà.
Monday: sunny and milder weather
The week will begin as the last one ended, with overwhelming sunshine that will allow temperatures to rise significantly by midday, a far cry from Saturday's chill. However, the early morning hours will still be cool or cold in some parts of the country. There are few changes in the weather forecast, characterized by stable conditions and winds that will gradually decrease in intensity, though they will still be moderate in the Empordà region and parts of the Camp de Tarragona.
A rainy Saturday recap
Rain has affected many regions this Saturday, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in some areas, and falling as snow at mid and high elevations. Notable accumulations include 38.7 mm in Santa Coloma de Farners (Selva), 38.4 mm in Mataró (Maresme), and 36.8 mm in Dosrius - Montnegre i el Corredor Natural Park, also in Maresme.
