Awaiting strong storms in many regions until dawn
Once the front passes, Friday is expected to be calmer and cooler
BarcelonaThe change in weather that arrived this Thursday is leaving showers and strong storms in many regions. The spell of rain started around midday, mainly in the Pyrenees, and has been gaining ground. It is expected that until dawn, the thunderstorms and showers will sweep across a large part of the country, from northwest to southeast, also reaching the coast. In fact, in the final hours of the day, they will concentrate especially on the coast, pre-coast, and the northeast, where some downpours will occur.
Some downpours may occur, accompanied locally by hail, sleet, or strong winds. The most affected areas will continue to be the eastern Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees and the northeast. Meteocat maintains many counties on alert for heavy downpours that could leave more than 20 or 40 l/m² in just half an hour, and even 60 l/m² in three hours – a new Meteocat alert debuting in this episode – in Ripollès, Osona, Lluçanès, Garrotxa, and Berguedà. The Inuncat plan remains activated in alert phase.
The precipitation will be moving offshore during the early morning, although until first thing in the morning there may be remnants of showers or drizzles on the northeast coast and in Tarragona. The north wind will blow strongly at the extremities, especially in Alt Empordà, and on Friday calm will dominate, with the sun gradually gaining ground. Once the active front that is crossing us has passed, the cooling will be noticeable everywhere. The mercury will start rising again from the weekend, but for now without any heatwave in the medium term, and with considerable tranquility.
Friday: calmer and cooler
After the rain and storm front, calm will dominate this Friday. In the morning there will still be many intervals of clouds on the coast, pre-coast, and northeast, but the sun will gradually gain ground from the west, spreading to many places as hours pass. During the night, dawn, and morning, the tramuntana wind will blow strongly in Empordà, especially in Alt Empordà, where Meteocat has activated an alert for gusts exceeding 108 km/h. There will also be mistral in the Ebre region.
In the afternoon, cloud remnants will remain in the northeast and in the Ebre region, with only a risk of some weak and scattered showers between the interior of the Girona counties and the north of Barcelona counties. Independently, instability will increase in the Valencian Country, with a risk of some weak and local showers.
All in all with a clear generalized refreshment. Cooler mornings, and in the middle of the day the heat will be kept in check, with values quite normalized for the season. Many maximums of only 23 to 28°C are expected, locally higher in the Ebro valley and Ponent. On the other hand, they will be shorter in mountain areas, with quite cool temperatures all day long.
Quiet and warmer weekend
The first weekend of June presents itself as very calm and quite sunny in general. Saturday will have more lingering cloud intervals than Sunday, and in the afternoons, clouds will build up in the Pyrenees which, at most, will leave some insignificant shower in that sector.
Temperatures will be climbing after Friday's cool-down, both day and night. However, at night and in the early morning, it will still be cool, and during the day the heat will intensify, but it will be bearable and far from extremes in general. Many highs are expected between 26 and 32°C, lower in mountainous areas. Next week the heat will intensify.
