The storm is moving away, but time won't completely clear things up.
Rain in the morning in the south and on the coast, with a more serene afternoon
BarcelonaThe easterly storm has eased, but it has still brought heavy downpours to the south of the country. These are the last vestiges of this active weather system, which, in fact, accumulated another 70 liters per square meter on Sunday.2 in Els Ports or close to 50 l/m2 in Ulldecona. The highest rainfall totals of the event have exceeded 200 l/m².2From Christmas Day, both in the northeast and in the far south of the territory (you will find more information at the end of this report).
Civil Protection deactivates INUNCAT due to the easterly winds and the pre-alert for avalanche risk remains in effect in the Eastern Pyrenees.
Over the next few days, the storm will give way to calmer weather, with a final round of showers expected this Monday morning, along the coast and in the south.
Monday: Cloudy with rain on the coast; clearing in the afternoon
The weather will improve during the week, although it won't clear completely. Early in the day, the sky will still be overcast and gray along the central coast, where some scattered, light showers are possible. In the far south, there is still a chance of moderate rainfall. As the day progresses, skies will clear, leading to a calmer day. Inland, especially in the western part of the region, as well as in the Pyrenees of Lleida, the sun will shine more brightly, with no risk of rain. Mornings will be cooler, with rising daytime highs. In the Pyrenean valleys, minimum temperatures will drop to -3°C, while on the coast they will remain around 8°C.
The maritime situation has improved and the forecast is for moderate swells, with waves not exceeding half a meter in height. There will be a groundswell.
The degree of avalanche danger The danger level is high (4 out of 5) in the Ter-Freser area, on the northern slopes of the Cadí-Moixeró range, in the Pre-Pyrenees, and in the eastern half of the Perafita-Puigpedrós area. The forecast is for the danger to decrease slightly (to 3 out of 5) on Monday and Tuesday.
Temperature drop expected on Wednesday and Thursday
A mass of cold air will bring lower temperatures starting midweek. This cold air will be channeled by the anticyclone located over the British Isles. Therefore, a wintry New Year's is expected, with intense nighttime frosts in the Pyrenean valleys (-8°C, for example, in Puigcerdà). Inland, minimum temperatures will drop to -1°C (Lleida), and nights will also be cold on the coast, with 6°C forecast for Barcelona and 4°C for Tarragona. Generally clear skies will prevail, with dense and persistent fog in the western part of the country.
Storm assessment
The easterly winds, which began on Christmas Day, have left rainfall totals approaching or exceeding 200 l/m² in some parts of the country, such as 216 l/m². of Cantonigròs or the Els Ports National Park. In Batet de la Serra (Garrotxa) they have accumulated 208 l/m2 and in Molló 203 l/m2The snowfall has accumulated to a depth of nearly one meter in Vallter (80 cm of recent snow, as of this Sunday at the EMA, in Ulldeter, at 2,400 m). Waves at the Begur cape buoy reached 9.75 meters.
