BarcelonaTemperatures have risen more this Wednesday, with very warm weather for the dates in the pre-coastal area and inland. And in the coming days, thermometers will peak and the first 30 °C of this year may be reached in Ponent and the Ebro basin. We are talking about values between 7 and 12 degrees above the usual average for this time of year inland and in the Pyrenees. This early summer is the result of a very warm air mass loaded with suspended dust driven from North Africa by the counter-clockwise rotation of a low-pressure system located between the southwestern peninsula and the Canary Islands. The exception will be found on the coast, where, as has already happened in recent hours, thermometers will be much more restrained and some fog or low clouds will appear, due to the marked thermal contrast between the ambient heat and the cold sea water. However, at the end of the weekend, a strong cooling will arrive accompanied by rain.

Thursday: more heat and suspended dust

Temperatures will rise further this Thursday, with very warm conditions for the time of year. Most highs will range between 25 and 30 °C in the pre-coastal areas and inland. The highest values are expected in Ponent and the Ebro inland, where the first 30 °C of the year may be reached. Heat more typical of late spring or early summer than April.

On the other hand, on the coast the mercury will again be much more held back due to the regulating effect of a still cold Mediterranean Sea. The thermal contrast between the cold water and the very warm air mass above us will cause the formation of new fogs or low clouds in coastal areas. The rest of the territory will be dominated by sun, with thin clouds and haze due to the presence of suspended dust.

Changes in sight

Temperatures will continue to soar until Saturday, but on the first day of the weekend, cloudiness will begin to increase, and in the afternoon, the first showers may arrive in the Pyrenees and Ponent.

It will be the prelude to the arrival of a cold air mass that from Sunday will open the doors to the north wind and a sharp drop in thermometers. A cooling that will come with instability, as rain may reach practically any point between Sunday and Monday. In the Pyrenees, the snow line will drop to below 1,500 m. A drastic change in weather that we will have to monitor.
