BarcelonaInstability has skyrocketed again this Tuesday, with a new wave of showers and strong, irregular afternoon storms in many areas. In some cases, there have been real downpours accompanied by hail or small hailstones, as on the coast and pre-coast of Barcelona, in the Ebro and in parts of the counties of Girona and Lleida. The city of Barcelona itself has been whitened by the fallen ice. The most notable records range between 15 and 50 l/m², with highlights including 52 in Montserrat, 37 in Sant Pau de Segúries (Ripollès) or 36 in Rellinars and Castellbisbal (Vallès Occidental) and Els Hostalets de Pierola (Anoia).

A situation that will remain until the night, with storms that will become concentrated in the northeast and in the Pyrenees, where they will finally leave at dawn. Meteocat maintains alerts activated in various counties this afternoon and also tomorrow for downpours of water that could locally leave more than 20 l/m² in just half an hour.

The weather will remain unsettled over the next few days. Both Wednesday and Thursday will see a lot of cloudiness in the northeast and on the north face of the Pyrenees, with showers falling in these areas. In contrast, there will be more sun in the south and in the west, where the mistral wind will be blowing. What we will most notice in the coming days will be the drop in temperatures. A cooling that will hit bottom between Friday and the weekend, with values clearly below average and more typical of late March or early April than mid-May. The snowline may drop to 1,500 m or below from Friday in the Pyrenees. All of this will be the result of an anticyclonic block in the Atlantic region which will facilitate the arrival of low-pressure systems and cold air of polar origin to central Europe and our Mediterranean area.

Wednesday: new rains and less heat

This Wednesday the sky will be cloudy all day in the northeastern counties and on the northern face of the Pyrenees. In these areas, some weak and scattered showers can already escape during the morning, but it will be in the afternoon when downpours will fall again and there will be some storms. Some locally intense storm may repeat in the interior of Girona. Little sunny weather in the Gerundense counties of Barcelona and in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, where these showers will be repeated. In contrast, more calm and sun in the south and Poniente, with mistral wind.

Forecast map for this Wednesday afternoon.

All this with temperatures that will drop, both minimum and maximum, with little heat and many values between 17 and 22 ºC. However, towards the West and especially in the Ebro, between 23 and 25 ºC can be recorded due to the presence of more sun and the slightly overheated mistral wind.

Cool and lively weather in the coming days

On Thursday, a very similar situation to Wednesday will be repeated, with new showers in the northern half and more sun in the south, as well as mistral wind and temperatures that will drop a little more. On Friday, a new front will arrive that will reactivate the downpours and storms, especially in the northern half, with highs that will hit rock bottom. This cooling will continue over the weekend, especially at night, although it seems unlikely that there will be frosts outside the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees.
