May atmosphere and afternoon thunderstorms this weekend
The thermometers will still rise a little more and 30°C can be reached in the warmest areas of the country
BarcelonaTemperatures continue to climb a little more each day: today, 25 °C have already been reached in areas of the northeast due to warm southerly winds, and these figures have been surpassed once again in the southern interior. Thermometers are still set to peak between Friday and the weekend, with many highs above 25 °C in the pre-coastal areas and inland, and even 30 °C will be reached again in Ponent and the Ebro interior.
Warm weather more typical of late May than April, but some weather changes are coming. Sun and calm will continue to dominate in most regions, but the entry of a little cold air at altitude will clash with the warm air mass that has been embracing us these days, and this will cause cloudiness to grow more vigorously in mountainous areas. Therefore, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will increase in these areas over the coming days.
Friday: sun and heat
The weather will undergo few changes this Friday and will generally be sunny, with only minor nuances. Some decorative bands of high, thin clouds will continue to circulate, while some morning fogs or low clouds will repeat in inland plains and on some coastal stretches. The novelty will be that afternoon cloudiness will grow with a little more vigor in mountainous areas, and some isolated showers cannot be ruled out in the eastern Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees.
All this with temperatures that will continue to rise a little more, both day and night. Less cold morning and warm midday, with many highs from 22 °C to 27 °C, a little higher in Ponent and in the Ebro interior, where they could reach 30 °C.
Afternoon thunderstorms on the weekend
Towards the weekend, temperatures will peak, with values clearly above average and a very warm atmosphere. Most of the highs will range between 24 °C and 28 °C in the pre-coastal areas and inland, but in Ponent and the Ebro valley, 30 °C will be reached, as happened last week, although it seems without the extremely high values of the last heatwave. The mercury will continue to be held back on the coast due to the influence of a still cold sea.
All this with clouds that will grow strongly and bring back afternoon showers and thunderstorms in mountainous areas, especially in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and Ports. Even on Sunday, these showers could reach other pre-coastal and inland areas in a weaker form. A typically spring situation. On the other hand, sun and calm will continue to dominate in most regions. There is no normalization of thermometers in sight, nor any situation of rain.
