BarcelonaThe westerly wind storm that affected much of the country yesterday brought gusts of between 60 and 90 km/h in many places, and over 120 or 130 km/h in some high-altitude areas, with numerous incidents [you'll find the most significant wind gusts, incidents, and images of the storm at the end of this report]. The gale is now history, and the night has been calm. However, the westerly wind will continue to be felt in several regions throughout today, at a much weaker rate. This situation has resulted from the passage of a front associated with the powerful British storm. Benjamin, which has subsequently opened its doors to a significant refreshment.

Today we woke up to a much cooler or colder atmosphere in general, with temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees lower than at the same time yesterday. Even in the Pyrenees, the contrast is locally up to 15 degrees compared to yesterday morning. A very significant and sudden refreshment that will continue into the weekend, with a fully autumnal atmosphere after days of summer. Furthermore, between Saturday and Sunday, many clouds and some precipitation will arrive.

Friday: light soda

Beware of this morning's sharp coolness; dress warmly. Temperatures have dropped significantly, and much of the interior and the Pyrenees are below 10°C or 5°C, while on the coast and pre-coast, temperatures range from 10°C to 15°C. By midday, temperatures will be considerably more moderate, nothing like the mild summer of recent days. Many highs will hover between 18°C and 23°C, locally higher in the south. The westerly wind has clearly decreased, although it will remain much weaker or moderate in the center, south, and west of the country, especially in the middle of the day. It will eventually disappear completely in the afternoon and early evening.

Forecast map for this Friday afternoon.

All of this will be very calm, as the sun will generally dominate. There will only be some cloudy periods in the Girona region, as well as in the early hours over the Ebro. There will also be some harmless patches of high, thin clouds. It will be a rain-free day, with only some local showers in the inland regions of Valencia.

Autumn weekend, with cool, rainy skies.

The weather will be more unstable this weekend. A zone of instability will affect us, which will significantly increase cloudiness and precipitation. Saturday will be a rather gray day with a risk of light, scattered rain, especially in the western and northern regions, but it could rain almost anywhere. It will also rain in Castellón, but with more sun in the rest of the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.

Looking ahead to Sunday, it could rain anywhere in the early morning and early morning. As the hours pass, the precipitation is expected to become concentrated on the coast and pre-coast, where it will eventually move in the afternoon. A few intense storms cannot be ruled out. The situation is still very uncertain and open to changes, which we will have to specify.

What we will notice this weekend is that maximum temperatures will drop even further. Most temperatures will remain below 20°C, with a cool, autumnal atmosphere, more so in the middle of November than in late October. The change to winter time will bring cold air, and be careful with the snow level, as it will gradually drop and fall below 2,000 m by Sunday afternoon.

Wind forecast for the storm

In fact, the strongest gusts were recorded at high altitudes, with 129 km/h on Mount Sesolles (at an altitude of 1,668 m, in Montseny) and 132 km/h in Portbou. The north wind dominated in Alt Empordà. However, most of the Girona regions were less affected by this incident, with less significant winds. By region, the majority of alerts were in Vallès Occidental, Barcelonès, and Baix Llobregat. The municipalities with the most calls were Barcelona, Sabadell, and Sant Cugat.

The strong gusts also caused incidents on the commuter rail network. Specifically, traffic on the R1 was cut off between L'Hospitalet and Badalona until workers removed the large object that had fallen onto the road, pushed by the wind. Traffic has now been restored.
