BarcelonaWe are entering a typical spring dynamic, with calm mornings and uncertain afternoons. The presence of a bit of cold air at altitude causes daytime cloudiness to increase in mountainous areas, and afternoon showers and thunderstorms are the protagonists, which, in fact, will increase between today and Monday. Yesterday, Saturday, they already occurred in parts of the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and Los Puertos, with minor amounts (3 l/m2 in Espot station, 2 l/m2 in Sort, and 0.5 l/m2 in Núria, at 2,000 m).

The atmosphere will continue to be warm, and there will be values that will again approach 30 ºC in many inland regions. Yesterday, they reached up to 29.8 ºC in Alcarràs and up to 29.4 ºC in Vinebre.

Forecast for Sunday the 19th in the morning.

Sunday: thunder will return to the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees and Central Catalonia

Sunny day in the morning, with some morning fogs or low clouds in the Ebro Delta or on the central coast that will dissipate, and the passage of harmless bands of high, thin clouds. However, instability will increase from midday and cloudiness will grow in mountainous areas. During the afternoon, showers or some thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, the north of Central Catalonia, and are not ruled out in the Els Ports area, as well as in the interior of Castellón and Valencia. The downpours may fall, locally, with some intensity and with hail. Towards the end of the day, some weak showers may fall in Ponent, in the afternoon-evening.

Outside these areas, the meteorological situation will continue to be marked by calm, although during the afternoon bands of clouds will arrive from the cloudiness in the mountainous areas.

Temperatures will remain above what is expected for this time of year, with no morning frosts (not even at high altitudes in the Pyrenees), and with minimums that have ranged between 13 ºC and 15 ºC (in the Pyrenean valleys they have not dropped below 7 ºC). Maximums will again approach 30 ºC in Ponent and in the rest they will range between 25 ºC and 28 ºC. On the coast, they will be more restrained, around 22 ºC.

Few changes next week

Monday and Tuesday will see a repeat of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in mountainous and inland areas, and this afternoon instability will persist throughout the week. It is not ruled out that some showers may also reach the coast mid-week. Thermometers will experience some rises and falls, with a decrease where it rains. However, values will remain above the usual average for this time of year.
