Illustration to represent empathy in people.

I don't know if it happens to you too, but I have the feeling that, lately, there is a worrying lack of empathy. It's as if we see the people around us, but we don't really look at them. We go so fast that, too often, we forget that everyone carries their own baggage.

This week I went to the cinema to see the latest Steven Spielberg film, El día de la revelación. Without giving any spoilers, I'll just tell you that it touched me because, deep down, it speaks precisely of empathy and the need to look beyond appearances.

Putting yourself in someone else's shoes is not easy at all. It involves trying to understand their emotions, their feelings, and those struggles that, many times, are not visible. It requires listening before judging and understanding before opining.

We live in a society where we give our opinions more and more and listen less and less. Perhaps empathy will not change the world overnight, but it can change someone's day. And, as society is, perhaps this is the small great gesture that we most need to recover.
