Suspended due to bad weather the last training session of the Spanish team before the final
Argentina has been able to train on the grass, even though they did so 45 minutes late
BarcelonaA thunderstorm has forced the suspension of the Spanish national team's last training session before the World Cup final. De la Fuente's team was scheduled to train at eleven in the morning, local time, before facing Leo Messi's Argentina this Sunday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. New York state protocol dictates that all activities must be suspended if there are less than 30 seconds between a lightning strike and the accompanying thunder, and they cannot resume until at least half an hour has passed since the last thunder.
According to the meteorological forecast, there was a window of about 45 minutes to go out onto the training field and conduct part of the session, but at the last minute the storms worsened and Spain opted to definitively cancel the activity. In its place, the red team's footballers held an activation session in the gym at Melanie Lane Training Ground in New Jersey.
This same thunderstorm also affected the Argentine national team, although in their case the albiceleste were able to take to the pitch at Red Bull Academy in Morristown, albeit 45 minutes late. In the 15 minutes open to the media, it was possible to see how coach Lionel Scaloni distributed the bibs to the eleven starters in the semifinal, as well as to Gio lo Celso, Thiago Almada, and Rodrigo de Paul, footballers who are also in contention to start in the final.
