Jorge Martin flies to Austria and passes in front of Marc Marquez

BarcelonaThe Madrid-born Jorge Martín (Aprilia RS-GP) has achieved his fourth victory of the season in a sprint race by winning the Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix, at the Red Bull circuit in Spielberg. In the process, Martín regains the first position in the World Championship general classification and overtakes Marc Márquez (Ducati Desmosedici GP23), who was second today. The Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia RS-GP) was third, a position he also holds in the general classification. Martín now has 286 points, three more than Marc Márquez, with Bezzecchi third, 38 points behind.

After a few races where Marc Márquez had shone, had narrowed the gaps in the standings and had gone from being fourth to being first, the visit to the Austrian circuit was an opportunity for Martín to strengthen his position and strike back. But the one who seemed to be going faster was Pedro Acosta (KTM RC 16), who had already set a good pace on Friday. Acosta immediately took the lead, taking advantage of a mistake by Martín while Marc Márquez was second, always keeping Bezzecchi, who was third, at bay. Behind them were Àlex Márquez (Ducati Desmosedici GP26) and Ai Ogura (Aprilia RS-GP), with Jorge Martín recovering from a poor start. In no time at all, he was already fourth.

Martín did not give up and first overtook Marco Bezzecchi. Then, Márquez could not stop him either. Now, it seemed impossible to catch an Acosta who was riding with more than a two-second cushion in the lead, but to everyone's surprise, Acosta crashed on his own, and gifted the first position to Martín. The fourth place went to Ai Ogura, ahead of Àlex Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia.

Martín has had a perfect Saturday, as he had previously achieved the third pole position of the season with a time of 1:27.917, which gives him his twenty-third pole in the MotoGP category. Martín, therefore, will start first on Sunday ahead of Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta (KTM RC 16).
