From its inception, the Abertis Foundation has placed culture and heritage at the heart of its activities, promoting projects that connect artistic expression with the communities in the countries where the group operates. This commitment takes shape in cultural outreach programs, international exhibitions, and institutional partnerships that make the Abertis Foundation a key player in promoting art beyond borders. The Castellet Castle is one of its heritage assets of exceptional interest, which the Foundation makes available to the public. In addition to being its headquarters, the site houses the International Centre for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves (UNESCOMED), following the declaration adopted on April 5, 2014, at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. Castellet has thus become a benchmark in the field of Mediterranean cultural and natural heritage, open to the public and highlighting the Foundation's commitment to culture in the broadest sense of the word.

With an international vocation

In parallel, the Foundation maintains a firm commitment to cultural sponsorship, supporting internationally renowned public institutions with a broad sponsorship program. Among its strategic partners are the two major Spanish opera houses: the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, emblematic venues for the performing arts and music, with international reach and public ownership. This support reinforces Abertis's presence in a top-tier cultural sphere and helps guarantee access to high-quality artistic offerings.

The Foundation's international vocation is also reflected in its ability to bring the work of some of Spain's most celebrated artists—Miró, Picasso, Dalí, Velázquez, and Gaudí—to new audiences worldwide. Thanks to collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and other institutions, these works have traveled to countries such as France, Italy, the United States, Argentina, India, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Chile.

A consolidated alliance with the Fundació Joan Miró

In this context, one of the most outstanding collaborations is Abertis's stable link with the Fundació Joan Miró, which has made it possible to promote far-reaching projects such as the traveling exhibition Miró UniverseThis exhibition, organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has toured embassies and consulates around the world, bringing the work of the Catalan genius to new international audiences. This commitment has been reinforced this year with the sponsorship of the exhibition. Miró and the United StatesThe exhibition, which opened last October in Barcelona, proposes an intergenerational dialogue between Miró and American artists who shaped the development of 20th-century art. It brings together nearly 160 works from American and European collections, as well as pieces from the Fundació Joan Miró collection. The exhibition explores how the creative practices of the Catalan painter and artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko influenced one another. The exhibition, co-organized with The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., will also be on view in the U.S. capital from March 21 to July 5, 2026, further expanding its international reach. This project is not only an example of cultural collaboration; it also reaffirms the Abertis Foundation's commitment to the preservation and dissemination of artistic heritage. The initiative highlights the social function of art as a universal language capable of connecting people, stimulating creativity, and bringing together diverse perspectives. For the Foundation, sharing culture is a way to strengthen bonds and contribute to collective progress. Art fosters understanding beyond borders.
