The territorial directors of CaixaBank's DT Barcelona and DT Catalunya, Maria Alsina and Josep Maria González, participated in the delivery of roses, which were made by people with disabilities from collaborating social entities, on the occasion of Sant Jordi's Day. A total of half a thousand CaixaBank volunteers in Catalonia have distributed 12,750 roses to the elderly and people with intellectual disabilities in 135 residences in the four provinces.

In Barcelona, volunteers have delivered roses to people in vulnerable situations in residences in the capital and in various municipalities in the metropolitan area, such as Sabadell, Terrassa, Granollers, Gavà, Badalona, Molins de Rei, Cornellà, and l'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Volunteers handed out roses

In addition to the delivery of roses, volunteers have brought the spirit of Sant Jordi to vulnerable children in various locations. Minors hospitalized at the Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital in Girona and Santa Caterina Hospital in Salt (Girona) have received stuffed animals and bookmarks during the visit of CaixaBank volunteers, in an initiative designed to convey closeness, hope, and companionship on such a special date. Furthermore, they were accompanied by the Sant Jordi dragon, whose presence added a playful and emotional component to the visits, contributing to an atmosphere of joy and optimism among the minors, their families, and the healthcare staff.

In another initiative, in the province of Tarragona, children with intellectual disabilities from the APASA entity have delivered 50 books to the minors of Càritas Amposta, in a meeting that took place at Parc Xiribecs in Amposta.

Before the delivery, the minors from both entities participated in a storytelling session with inclusive narratives that promote values such as diversity and coexistence. The activity also featured the presence of the Sant Jordi dragon, which added a festive touch to an initiative designed to bring the hope and solidarity spirit of this very special day to all participating minors.

Unique Roses

The territorial director of CaixaBank in Barcelona, Maria Alsina, highlighted that "this action allows us to get closer to the users of the residences and the entities that, in our territory, work to improve the daily lives of the elderly and people with disabilities". Alsina also underlined "the commitment of CaixaBank volunteers to contribute their bit and help respond to social challenges" and assured that "initiatives like this strengthen the spirit of solidarity". In this regard, she valued that "each rose is unique, as they have been handmade by the users of the ALPI Association and the Les Corts Occupational Center".

For his part, the territorial director of CaixaBank's DT Catalunya, Josep Maria González, highlighted "the strong commitment and solidarity shown by the entity's volunteers", as well as the "constant support they offer to vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and people with disabilities". According to González, "these solidarity initiatives have a direct positive impact on their well-being and help to strengthen a society based on inclusion and respect". Likewise, he emphasized "the essential work of social entities and occupational centers that work continuously to promote the social inclusion of people with disabilities" and that "the work of these organizations is key to expanding opportunities, guaranteeing rights and moving towards a more just and egalitarian society".

Nearly 6,700 CaixaBank volunteers in Catalonia participated in more than 6,630 solidarity activities organized by the entity in 2025, which generated a positive impact on the lives of more than 162,000 people in vulnerable situations in the four provinces. These actions translated into more than 59,000 hours of volunteer dedication.

CaixaBank Volunteering

CaixaBank Volunteering is constituted as one of the major volunteering initiatives in Spain and its purpose is to bring the practice of solidarity actions closer to all citizens in the International Year of Volunteering. With a track record of more than 20 years, the association is made up of employees and former employees of the CaixaBank Group and the "la Caixa" Foundation, as well as friends, family, CaixaBank customers and all those who wish to participate in solidarity activities.

Thanks to the joint work with around 2,500 social entities and as a result of the involvement of nearly 24,000 volunteers, the CaixaBank Volunteering program helps more than 755,000 vulnerable people throughout Spain, through activities related to education, digitalization, support for vulnerable people and the environment, among others.

The promotion of corporate volunteering is one of CaixaBank's lines of action. For the entity, this is a way of contributing to responding to the challenges demanded by society, while at the same time, through financial activity, it offers services and solutions for social entities and people at risk of vulnerability.
