The selectivity examiners in the Valencian Country threaten to resign if there is no agreement with the government
They reproach the ministry that it has not shown "a minimum flexibility" to attend to the improvements claimed by teachers
ValenciaThe Assembly of Corrective Professors for the PAU Exams of the Valencian Country, comprising 250 teachers, has announced that it is considering not appearing for the constitution of the tribunals for the university access exams, collectively resigning on the day they are formed – June 2nd – or adopting "more forceful" actions regarding the qualifications.
In a statement, the assembly, formed in response to what they describe as an "stalemate in negotiations" due to the indefinite strike in Valencian education – which is now in its third week –, reproaches the Ministry of Education for not showing "minimal flexibility" in addressing the improvements demanded by the professors. Specifically, it criticizes the lack of "genuine concern" for "exorbitant" ratios, the persistence of unconsolidated classrooms, unpaid tutoring sessions, the existence of "burnt-out" teaching staff due to bureaucratic procedures, the "disregard for Valencian," and the elimination of groups for artistic specialties.
The Assembly of Corrective Professors for the PAU Exams also criticizes "the silence" and "scant solidarity" from the five public universities in the Valencian Country, which, in their opinion, have only shown "lukewarm support," and only from some departments and faculties. They demand "genuine institutional support" and "sincere backing" for the current and future students from whom most Valencian universities draw their resources. The statement concludes that they in no way wish to harm the future of students or families, but that, due to "the lukewarm response from the universities," they are forced to take these measures.
Union breakdown
The announcement comes the day after the ANPE and CSIF unions accepted the latest salary increase proposal presented by the ministry. The offer foresees a raise of 200 euros per month over two years with a review clause for its last installment planned for January 2028. STEPV, UGT, and CCOO – the majority unions, which together represent 70% of the representation – continue to consider it "insufficient" and negotiations will resume this Tuesday at 4 p.m.
After reading the statement, the regional secretary for Universities, Esther Gómez, wanted to convey a message of "calm" to the students and guaranteed that the exams will be carried out in "normal conditions" thanks to the minimum services approved for the educational strike and by calling on, if necessary, teachers on reserve. In addition, she recalled the "consequences" for teachers who do not appear for the constitution of the tribunals.
