Taken to the air to contain the migrants who were looking for a reception place in Ceuta

BarcelonaThe news that a new temporary accommodation center was opening spread like wildfire among the migrants who have had to make a living in Ceuta for a month. Immediately, groups of young people arrived at the gates of Loma Colmenar, a plot of land ceded by the government of Ceuta, hoping to be lucky enough to get a roof over their heads, even if only temporarily. But upon arrival, they found that outside the facilities there were already hundreds of people who had been waiting their turn for 10 days, after being left out of the first 1,800 places made available. The migrants tried to access the interior of the esplanade, and there were moments of tension between the two groups. Agents of the National Police threw rubber bullets into the air and charged to stop these people.

The situation has led to the access road to the University Hospital even having to be closed, as well as the aerial launch of rubber bullets to maintain calm in the area and try to disperse the group. The officers used anti-riot gear and charged the crowd. One person was injured and had to be treated inside the facilities

The Spanish government has opened new temporary reception places this Monday for the first time in two weeks, bringing the total to 3,300. However, these are still insufficient to accommodate the 5,000 people wandering the city and the 6,000 places that the executive plans to make available in the coming days, in an attempt to restore some normality to the city.

In addition, about 400 adult women who were in camps set up in different neighborhoods of the city have been transferred to the facilities of the Equestrian Center.
