The Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, has been discharged from the hospital but will remain on leave for a few weeks.
The three general secretaries of the department and Councillor Dalmau assume their duties
BarcelonaThe Catalan Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery this Monday at the Bellvitge University Hospital. She will remain on medical leave, but will recover at home for a few more weeks. The Department of Education announced last weekend that Niubó would need to step away from her duties for a period of time for medical reasons. The Minister has sent a message of thanks to the surgical and neurological professionals who assisted in her operation. "Now that I'm being discharged from the hospital after my surgery, I want to acknowledge and thank Bellvitge Hospital and each and every one of its professionals for the care they've given me. [...] They, along with the wonderful nursing team, are responsible for me being able to go home and continue my recovery.
Niubó also took the opportunity to remind everyone that "our public services are among our most precious assets, and it's important to value them, especially when they are essential." "Thank you for taking care of us!" she added.
The head of the Education Department also expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received. "People often talk about the dehumanization of politics, but nothing could be further from the truth than what I've been told by people from different political circles, institutions, and the educational community. This strength motivates me to recover and return to work as soon as possible. Thank you so much!" Niubó wrote on her personal account.
Three secretaries in charge
Since Niubó's temporary leave of absence was announced on Sunday, the day-to-day running of the Ministry of Education has been in the hands of the three Secretaries of Education. Therefore, the department is being managed by the Secretary General of the Department of Education and Vocational Training, Teresa Sambola; the Secretary of Vocational Training (FP), Francesc Roca Rosell; and the Secretary of Educational Improvement, Ignasi Giménez Renom, who took up the position just three months ago. All three have assumed the Minister's executive decisions. Regarding the Minister's functions and the representation of the department, these are being assumed by the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau.
