The last person involved in the deaths of two Civil Guard officers hit by a drug boat in Barbate has been arrested.

This fourth arrest brings to a close the investigation into one of the most violent episodes involving drug gangs in recent years.

The events occurred on the night of February 9, 2024. A narco-lanxa violently rammed a zodiac boat belonging to the Civil Guard's underwater activities group during an operation in the port of Barbate against drug trafficking. The violent collision between the two boats caused the deaths of two guards from the force, David Pérez and Miguel Ángel González, and injured four other officers, in one of the most serious episodes related to drug trafficking in the waters of Cádiz in recent years.

The first arrests were made months after the incident, on September 19, 2024. At that time, the boat's self-confessed pilot, Karim El Baqqali, 32, voluntarily surrendered to the police and claimed he was the driver. El Baqqali also described the accident as an "accident." The judge hearing the case ordered him to be held in provisional, communicated, and unsecured prison without bail, and charged him with two counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, six counts of assault, one count of smuggling, and one count of belonging to a criminal organization.

A month later, on November 8, two other crew members were arrested and also held in provisional, unsecured prison without bail. Both are charged with the same crimes as those in the platoon, according to a report by the High Court of Andalusia at the time.
