The key maps to understand the humanitarian crisis of Ceuta

BarcelonaThe entry of more than 50,000 people into Ceuta from Morocco, in which at least fifty people are estimated to have died, has placed Spain's border with the Maghreb country in the spotlight – and pushed it to the limit. Consult these graphs to better understand migratory flows and the latest data on entries of people into Spain and Europe.

The border

This is the border between Ceuta and Morocco, located in the north of the African continent. Migrants have accessed Spain by crossing from El Tarajal beach and skirting the breakwater. This is the main entry point for people located just before the border control with Spain.

Migrants have crossed both by land and sea, and some have also reached Spain by crossing an industrial estate. At least fifty people have died attempting to swim.

Migration flows

As this graph shows, comparing the figures collected this year with those of 2025, Ceuta has seen the largest increase in irregular migrant arrivals in Spain, followed by Melilla.

Regarding Europe, Ceuta has been the only border crossing in European territory that has seen an increase in irregular entries of people this 2026 compared to last year. Despite this, if we talk about numbers, other territories such as the United Kingdom or points in the central and eastern Mediterranean surpass (double or more) Ceuta's figures.
