The arrested person is a fruit farm worker from the area
The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested an eighteen-year-old man this Monday in Soses (Segrià) because he is allegedly linked to the murder of a 75-year-old woman. The victim was found dead on Saturday night in a cornfield in the same municipality in the province of Lleida. The police located the victim after receiving a report that same night informing them of the disappearance of a woman in this town.
According to sources consulted by ARA, the arrested person for the crime is a fruit farm worker in the area, and he is eighteen years old. The same sources indicate that the woman went to walk her dog in this field area, but she never returned. She had left around quarter to eight in the evening and the dog ended up returning to the village alone. This alerted the neighbors and relatives of the victim, who went out to look for her. They also alerted the police to her disappearance, and the report arrived around 10:45 PM.
Finally, the officers found her an hour later, around 11:45 PM. The woman's body was in a cornfield next to the LP-7041 road coming from Aitona. From the very first moment, the officers who located the body confirmed that it was a death with signs of violence. According to sources consulted by ARA, the woman was allegedly killed by cutting her throat with a glass bottle. For now, the motive for the crime is not entirely clear. In fact, a priori, the perpetrator and the victim did not know each other, according to the consulted sources.
Three days of mourning
On Sunday, the City Council announced the woman's death through the municipal public address system spread throughout the town, and also called for a minute of silence at 12 noon on the same day. In addition, the council has decreed three days of official mourning for this death.
The case is under secret investigation and the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos d'Esquadra is in charge of the police investigation.
According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, the detainee will not be brought before the court this Tuesday. The forecast is that he will not do so until at least Wednesday or even Thursday, once the police interrogations have concluded.
