Marlaska assures that the night has been "positive" and that we can "be more calm" with the fires in Madrid and Ávila
For the moment, there are 70,000 hectares burned and close to 98,200 people affected
The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, assured this Tuesday morning that the fire in Ávila and Madrid "is evolving favorably" thanks to the overnight work today. "We can be a little calmer," he remarked. According to the minister, the current situation is "reasonably positive" given the meteorological conditions that will worsen from this Wednesday, when the fourth heatwave arrives.
Regarding the strategy to tackle the fire, the minister recalled that the extinction efforts are aimed at treating the different open fronts in Madrid and Ávila as a single fire. However, Marlaska insisted that, for the moment, there has been no "total or absolute convergence" of the two large fires.
Regarding the assessment of the situation of the fires in Ávila and Madrid, there are a total of 70,000 hectares devastated, more than 63,000 people evacuated and 35,000 confined - which would translate to about 98,200 affected-. In Toledo, although the fire remains active, 4,259 people have been able to return home.
