Man arrested in Barcelona for killing his father in Italy and faking his kidnapping
The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have arrested the son of Ukrainian businessman Alexander Adarich
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), in collaboration with the Italian police, arrested a man this Friday for his alleged involvement in the death of his father. The deceased is Alexander Adarich, a Ukrainian businessman based in Barcelona. The resolution of this crime came after a month-long investigation and the discovery that what appeared to be a kidnapping in Italy turned out to be a parricide. Alexander Adarich and his son traveled to Milan on January 23 to finalize a business deal. They met with some businessmen in an apartment in the city. According to the son's version of events, these businessmen kidnapped them both. After a few hours, he was released to collect a ransom and returned to Catalonia, where he reported the alleged kidnapping to the Mossos, according to sources consulted by this newspaper. The reality turned out to be different and culminated in the son's arrest, as previously reported by... The Vanguard and confirmed by the ARA.
On the same day as the alleged kidnapping, Alexander Adarich fell from the window of that Milan apartment and died. Initially, the Italian police investigated it as a suicide, but the son's behavior eventually shifted the focus to him. Italian investigators, for example, have been able to verify that the son did not stop to help his father. On the contrary, he returned to Catalonia.
The setup
The Italian police's main hypothesis is that the son pushed his father. Allegedly, this occurred after the businessmen had left, without any kidnapping taking place, although there was a money transfer. In other words, the whole thing appears to have been staged. The Italian police contacted the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), who arrested the businessman's son in Barcelona this Friday. They also searched his apartment for evidence of the crime. His son will likely be extradited to Italy, where the case will proceed through the courts.
