A man kills his ex-partner in Cordoba two days after being arrested for assaulting her
The individual, who had a restraining order, has been arrested after stabbing the woman with a machete and barricading himself in a dwelling
BarcelonaThe National Police arrested a man this Monday morning who killed his ex-partner with a machete in Cordoba, two days after being arrested for assaulting her and having been issued a restraining order, according to police sources confirmed to Efe. In fact, the murder took place on the same day that the man and the woman, both 65 years old and included in the VioGèn surveillance system, were scheduled to appear in court.
The events took place in a building in the Cordoba neighborhood of La Fuensanta, around 9 AM. A neighbor gave the alert after seeing the man stab the victim in a hallway of the building. The individual then barricaded himself in a home and flooded the entrance with pepper spray to prevent emergency services from entering.
Finally, firefighters managed to enter the home and, once inside, found the woman's body with stab wounds, which is why National Police officers immediately arrested the man, who was carrying a large machete.
Arrested for assault days earlier
The victim was the ex-partner of her killer and police sources have explained that they lived in the same building, on consecutive floors, despite the killer having a restraining order. The man had been arrested last Saturday for assaulting the woman, but after appearing before the court, he was released with precautionary measures. The woman was included in the VioGèn system with medium risk, according to the same sources.
This is the sixteenth sexist crime in the Spanish state in 2026. Since 2003, when this data began to be collected, up to 1,359 women have been murdered.
