Thirteen injured when a tree fell on a porch where a group of minors and their supervisors were having lunch
There is a person in serious condition who would be one of the adults and who has been transferred to the hospital
BarcelonaAt least thirteen people have been injured by the fall of a tree in Batet de la Serra, in the municipality of Olot. According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, the tree fell on the porch of a kind of barn on a farmhouse where a group of six monitors and sixteen children between 9 and 11 years old had asked for permission to stop for lunch while on a route.
The accident left one adult monitor seriously injured, who was airlifted to Trueta Hospital in Girona, but the SEM treated 22 people for the accident, twelve of whom were transferred to Olot Hospital. These include a minor who is in a less serious condition and eight minors and three adults who were slightly injured. The other nine affected (two adults and seven minors) did not require transfer to any hospital.
The first police investigations suggest that the tree fell on the roof as a result of the wind. Emergency teams, in coordination with municipal authorities, have set up a space for families to pick up the minors who were not injured.
Emergency teams received the alert at 2:59 PM. Four units of the Fire Department, five SEM ambulances, a joint team, a medicalized helicopter, and the team of psychologists have been dispatched to the scene.
