A week ago, police dismantled a faction of the Trinitaris gang, a Latin American gang based in Catalonia, arresting 19 people. As reported by ARA, the operation was a joint effort by the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) and the National Police, involving some 300 officers. He managed to dismantle that faction of the organization. Very active, especially in Hospitalet de Llobregat. In total, they carried out twenty raids, some in Hospitalet, but also in Barcelona, Esplugues, Sant Boi, Cubelles, and Salou. This Saturday, with the final tally of the operation, the police provided more details about how the organization operated, attributing to it two attempted murders and at least five shootings. Its members allegedly carried out armed robberies on commission. For example, the police link the organization to a shooting on June 8 in L'Hospitalet, in which a man was seriously injured, and to another during the Sant Joan festival in the Montigalà industrial park in Badalona, in which they opened fire on several people to steal chains and jewelry, with two fatalities. Furthermore, some of those under investigation intercepted a young man riding a scooter on June 25th and shot him in the leg during a robbery, also in Hospitalet. In fact, the joint investigation began in February, following an attempted homicide stemming from an armed robbery in the same city. As a result of this incident, investigators were able to uncover, identify, and dismantle a faction of the Trinitarios gang based in Catalonia. The gang, with defined roles and a division of responsibilities among its members, initially carried out robberies with violence and intimidation. The leaders passed on the targets to the second tier, who organized lower-ranking members to conduct surveillance, usually at Latin nightclubs, where the robberies were carried out. According to the police, to carry out the robberies, they typically waited for the victims to leave the nightclubs and then assaulted them. Prison operation
As the investigation progressed, police discovered that the group was also involved in drug trafficking, an activity coordinated by members who were free and others who were in prison at the time. ARA had already reported that the operation also extended to prisons. Police searched several cells in three Catalan penitentiaries where members of this gang were housed. They confiscated cell phones for analysis. Three inmates from Brians 1 prison also left the facility to accompany police to their homes to witness a search. Most of those involved were inmates being held in pretrial detention.
