Barcelona suspends new opening licenses for 24h supermarkets
The measure, which has already been published in the BOPB, takes immediate effect and is valid for one year
BarcelonaThe Governing Council of Barcelona City Council has agreed to temporarily suspend the granting of new licenses for self-service and super-service stores that can open 24 hours. The suspension was published this morning in the BOPB and takes immediate effect, with a validity of one year while work is carried out on new planning to protect local commerce, preserve commercial diversity, and avoid saturation and monoculture processes in certain areas of the city.
The city currently has approximately 1,300 establishments operating under personalized sales or self-service, with an offer essentially focused on everyday food products. With this ban, the city council assures that it wants to protect local commerce, preserve commercial diversity, and avoid saturation and monoculture processes in certain areas of the municipality.
In parallel with the temporary suspension of licenses, Barcelona City Council has announced that it will continue to intensify continuous inspection actions to ensure compliance with the regulations for this type of establishment through ordinary inspections and multi-inspections.
