Barcelona suspends new opening licenses for 24h supermarkets

BarcelonaThe Governing Council of Barcelona City Council has agreed to temporarily suspend the granting of new licenses for self-service and super-service stores that can open 24 hours. The suspension was published this morning in the BOPB and takes immediate effect, with a validity of one year while work is carried out on new planning to protect local commerce, preserve commercial diversity, and avoid saturation and monoculture processes in certain areas of the city.

The city currently has approximately 1,300 establishments operating under personalized sales or self-service, with an offer essentially focused on everyday food products.
