BarcelonaA magnitude 3.5 earthquake on the Richter scale struck the Costa Brava at noon this Thursday. The epicenter of the quake was several kilometers offshore, just off the Girona coast and toward the island of Menorca. According to the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), the quake was slightly felt in the Empordà region, with no damage reported.

Although the earthquake occurred far from the Earth's surface and at a depth of 10 kilometers, it was strong enough to be faintly felt in the area.

The magnitude was not very significant, but it was higher than the recent earthquakes that have occurred on the Costa Brava. This area of the country usually records several minor earthquakes throughout the year, most of them practically imperceptible to the population.

The most significant earthquakes in our country usually occur in the Pyrenees. Most of the earthquakes are minor and go unnoticed. However, in recent years some have reached magnitude 4 or higher, as in 2019, for example. Back then, not only did it significantly affect this area, but also many other regions in the country.
