The Princess of Asturias Award for Research 2026 recognizes three pioneers in rapid (24-hour) and low-cost (one thousand dollars) DNA sequencing, chemists David Klenerman and Shankar Balasubramanian, and biophysicist Pascal Mayer. Before them, it took 10 years and over a billion dollars to do so.
