It was ten minutes to ten in the morning at the intersection of Balmes street and Granada del Penedès street, in the upper part of Barcelona. The terraces were full and a National Police office for issuing ID cards and passports was already open. Suddenly, a shot was heard. There was a rush and witnesses explain that they hid inside the premises. A man dressed in a dark sweater, from which a Barça t-shirt protruded, and wearing bermuda shorts lay on the ground bleeding. He had just received a shot to the head. There was only one detonation. Another man, wearing a beige t-shirt, also bermuda shorts, and with a bicycle helmet in one hand and a pistol in the other, fled down Granada del Penedès street towards Via Augusta.

It was the afternoon of May 16 when a man was shot in the head on Carrer de la Mineria in Barcelona, in the Zona Franca. Despite attempts to revive him, the man died. Twenty-three days later, another man walking down the same street in the city was shot several times in the back. The story repeated itself: it was a Sunday afternoon, with many neighbors in the street, and despite resuscitation attempts, he ended up dying. These are two practically identical types of homicide, frequent among drug clans seeking revenge. Due to the proximity and similarities, when the Mossos investigators arrived at the crime scene this Sunday, they asked themselves a question: could the two crimes be related?

A person has died after a shooting this Sunday evening in Marina de Port, in the Sants-Montjuïc district, as confirmed by sources consulted by ARA. The events took place on Carrer de la Mineria, in the small squares between the buildings, and the way it happened all points to an execution. The same sources suggest it could be related to a drug conflict between Eastern mafias. Mossos agents tried to revive the victim upon arriving at the scene, but nothing could be done to save their life.

Rarely has Catalonia been so fortified as for the visit of Pope Leo XIV. Police sources speak of an unprecedented and extraordinary operation, which will mobilize more police officers than ever before (up to 7,000) and which bears the name Albus. The Mossos have chosen it because it means white in Latin and white is the color of the pontiff's usual attire, becoming his most recognizable visual symbol.

L'Eixample and Ciutat Vella will be the two districts most affected by the visit of Pope Leo XIV this week in Barcelona. The pontiff will land this Tuesday at El Prat airport and an extraordinary security operation will begin, with up to 7,000 police officers. The Pope's passage will also involve closures that will last for days in some parts of the city and various impacts on transport.

In 2022, the Ministry of the Interior, then led by Esquerra Republicana, approved an internal instruction to try to stop sanctioning with the so-called gag law people who protest peacefully, especially in cases of preventing an eviction. We are talking about situations like sitting on the floor in front of the home, gathering around the residence, protesting by offering peaceful resistance and encouraging other people who are not part of the mobilization to participate, and which until then often ended with a fine for disobedience. Now, however, several entities report that with the new Ministry of the Interior, led by the PSC since the end of 2024, this has changed.

One of the turning points in the investigation into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, was when the Mossos d'Esquadra accessed the content of his mobile phone. There they found several conversations in derogatory terms with his son, Jonathan Andic, the person with whom he was on a route through the Collbató caves on the day he died. The judge in the case speaks of messages "of hatred, of resentment, of ideas of death". As the ARA reported a few months ago, these messages were part of a kind of therapy that the Andic's son was undergoing with a coach and which the Mossos used to focus even more on the firstborn. Now, the judge is asking to delve even deeper into the figure of this therapist.

Night of riots in Mataró. The Mossos d'Esquadra had already reinforced their uniformed presence in the Cerdanyola neighborhood of the capital of Maresme after an eviction this Tuesday ended with three minors arrested for throwing blunt objects, such as paving stones, at the police line. These actions against the police, however, were repeated at night, according to Mossos sources. A group of young people burned a dozen containers and threw stones and incendiary devices at the police. In total, the Mossos made five arrests, four of them minors.

Teachers' protests have been going on for months at various points in Catalonia, with blockades on the country's main roads and numerous slow marches through the capitals of each province. Although some of these blockades and obstructions have seen tense scenes with drivers who were trapped, the vast majority of mobilizations have passed without incident. All, however, have been closely monitored by agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra, deployed to ensure that there were no significant disruptions. These agents, normally public order officers, have had the directive during the latest protests to be especially sensitive to these mobilizations, according to sources consulted by ARA.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating an attack with a bladed weapon suffered by a follower of the Europa football club this Sunday in Nou Barris, after the promotion match that the Gracienc team played against Celta B. The fan was seriously injured in the stomach, but his life is not in danger. The Catalan police arrested the alleged aggressor that same afternoon not far from the scene, after he tried to flee and hide in a building entrance.

A drug conflict between two familiar clans who know each other and compete for territorial control in Badalona. This is the main police hypothesis about the shooting that took place this Sunday afternoon in the Sant Roc neighborhood of the Catalan city in which a 10-year-old minor was injured in the arm by a ricochet bullet. The girl, who was admitted to the hospital and is out of danger, would be part of one of the feuding families.

Normally, the exit from Collblanc metro station, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, is a hustle and bustle of people. People entering and leaving the station, transiting along the parallel tracks, and shopping in the businesses surrounding Plaça de la Solidaritat. This Friday afternoon, however, there are more people than usual. A handful of curious onlookers are observing a machine in a semicircle. It is metallic, has two small wheels, and right above it, a Local Police officer places an electric scooter. The machine's wheels roll and make the scooter's wheels roll. The officer looks at a tablet to check the result and shortly after looks at the scooter driver with a troubled expression. It has been tampered with. The machine has concluded that it can reach 60 km/h. The City Council takes the scooter and the driver, a fine.

"It is one of the largest police operations ever deployed in Catalonia". This is how the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, described this Thursday the deployment of the Mossos d'Esquadra that will take place during the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Catalonia. Up to 5,600 agents of the Catalan police will be activated for this event. It is an almost unprecedented figure, as it means that 25% of the force's members will be active for the Pope's presence. Furthermore, this entire operation is joint with the National Police, the Civil Guard, the royal household, the Vatican Police, and the Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona, which will have 500 agents available. In other words, there will be many police officers on the streets. "Catalonia is prepared," stated the Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler. The Minister of Justice explained that the visit is covered by an agreement between the Generalitat, the City Council, and the Archbishopric, which he has quantified at 1.6 million euros financed by the tourist tax and which will be audited later.

If they wanted a marijuana plantation, they provided all the necessary material. Lighting, ventilation, irrigation systems, fertilization... They even brought it wherever it was needed. They operated like a cannabis supermarket. Apparently, they sold grow shop products, intended for personal consumption, but in reality, as an investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guardia Civil has been able to confirm, they supplied plantations controlled by large marijuana cartels. These are individuals of Spanish nationality who have appeared in many investigations in recent years against Albanian cannabis clans – although none of them had prior records – and, finally, the police have been able to link their role: they facilitated infrastructure and money laundering.

The Mossos d'Esquadra entered forcefully this Tuesday early in the morning in one of the most complex neighborhoods in Catalonia. Up to 600 agents of the Catalan police were summoned at five in the morning to launch a major operation against drug trafficking of marijuana in the Font de la Pólvora neighborhood of Girona, as well as in other towns, such as Riudarenes, Cassà de la Selva, l'Escala, Sils, Caldes de Malavella, Brunyola, Llagostera, Bescanó, Celrà, Quart and Salt.

The pilot plan to place agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Catalan schools has not been well received. It has been rejected by educational unions, but also by the majority of the centers where it was planned to be implemented.The trial has also generated internal criticism within the Catalan police regarding the way it has been designed and communicated. Among the few centers that have agreed to be part of the pilot plan, some are located in El Prat de Llobregat. In fact, sources consulted by ARA admit that, when the plan began to be considered, certain centers in this municipality were used as an example to justify the trial, although the list of schools and institutes for the pilot plan was provided by the Department of Education.

Notice, parents and children –some of them minors– committing thefts together on Barcelona buses. The youngest was 16 years old and the oldest 75. They were a group of up to 35 people who pretended to be a happy family among the seats of the bus, but whose objective was to steal wallets and mobile phones. Afterwards, they also tried to scam with mobile phone data. There is also a group of five criminals who accounted for 18% of the robberies in one month on the same means of transport. Or another group of ten people who divided their roles, and while some committed the thefts, others tried to access the bank data of the stolen mobile phones to carry out scams. They all lived in an occupied apartment in Santa Coloma de Gramenet. Some used card readers to make immediate payments with the stolen cards.

New incident with a firearm in Barcelona. This afternoon a man died in a shooting in the Marina del Port neighborhood, in the Sants-Montjuïc district of the Catalan capital. Police sources have confirmed to ARA that the man died from gunshots and that initial indications point to an execution, although the facts are still being investigated. Some witnesses consulted also claim that around half past seven in the evening they heard up to four shots in the area of Carrer de la Mineria, in front of a fruit shop.

Isak Andic, owner of Mango,'s mobile phone was key to placing police focus on his son, Jonathan Andic. After the founder of the clothing multinational died hiking in Collbató, the Mossos d'Esquadra recovered his mobile and wiped it. There they found messages with his son that showed tension between them. Now, it has been the wiping of Jonathan Andic's mobile phone from which evidence has also emerged that has ended up leading to his arrest for the alleged murder of his father. For example, that he made the same route several times in the Salnitre caves, in Collbató, days before his father's death.

The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango founder Isak Andic, for the death of his father, who died at the age of 71 while hiking in the Salnitre caves on December 14, 2024. Although initially treated as an accident, a few months ago the Mossos began investigating Andic's son, the only person with whom the businessman was hiking that day, for homicide. The Mossos arrested him this morning at his home and took him to the Martorell police station. Around 12:45 PM, he was transferred to the courts in the same city, where he arrived handcuffed. His lawyer, Cristóbal Martell, was already waiting for him there.
