MadridThree months after the elections in Extremadura, it seems the People's Party (PP) and Vox are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The two parties met this Wednesday in Mérida to finalize the agreement that would allow María Guardiola to be sworn in and re-elected as regional president. Speaking after the meeting, both parties affirmed that there is "harmony" and expressed optimism, although they cautioned that there are still "issues to be resolved" before the pact can be considered complete.

After the election campaign in Castile and León negotiations are haltedAnd when the question of whether the advance of the Andalusian call While this could be a trigger or a new obstacle, the PP and Vox have celebrated that "there is progress." "There is a clear willingness to reach an agreement," stated Óscar Fernández, the far-right party's candidate for Extremadura, in a statement to the media. State leaders from both parties participated in the meeting.

The Vox delegation, in addition to Fernández, included members of Congress José María Figaredo and Carlos Hernández Quero, as well as the party's deputy secretary general, Montserrat Lluís. Representing the PP were the party's secretary general, Miguel Tellado –in person–, and Alberto Núñez Feijóo's chief of staff, Marta Varela –remotely–. Also in attendance were... baroness popular and his number two in the PP, Abel Bautista.

In statements made immediately before Fernández's, Bautista explained that there will be more meetings "in the coming days," likely next week. "We have considered some points of the negotiation almost finalized, while others need a little more development and are still in their early stages," he said. Among the topics discussed are additional tax cuts and issues related to forest management, housing, and the Almaraz nuclear power plant.

The deadline for approval is May 4th if a repeat election is to be avoided. What needs to happen to prevent this deadline? According to Bautista and Fernández, the focus now is on the "budgetary details" of some measures. They agree with "most of the more general points" of the agreement, but the specifics of how to implement them are lacking. The allocation of positions, they insist, is not yet on the table and is not an obstacle at this "highly technical" stage of the negotiations.

First meeting in Castile and León

In addition to Extremadura, the PP must unblock two other negotiations with Vox in Aragon and Castile and León. In the case of the latter, the baron Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, the People's Party candidate, held his first formal meeting with Carlos Pollán, the Vox candidate. Pollán explained afterward that Fernández Mañueco expressed his desire to govern alone, while Pollán requested a place in the government. Despite this difference, they agreed to negotiate independently of the events in Extremadura and Aragon.
