The "damned war" that pursues Feijóo and the PP
BarcelonaWhen Pedro Sánchez dusted off the slogan “No to war”, he knew exactly what he was doing. The confusion it has caused in the PP is such that the best response that occurred to Feijóo's spin doctors in Wednesday's session was: “No to war and no to you”.
This phrase, far from being a brilliant comeback, perfectly summarizes all the traumas the PP is dragging along. “No to war” because they cannot repeat the mistake of 2003, when Aznar's support for the Iraq war galvanized the left, but also “no to you” to make it clear that they are not buying into the left's narrative, when in reality they are and they cannot hide the rage they feel that Pedro Sánchez has built an international profile in contrast to Donald Trump.
Feijóo's problem is that he cannot distance himself from the Iraq war because Aznar is still the spiritual father of the PP and has never, ever apologized or regretted that decision. What's more, when asked about the current intervention of the US and Israel, he demanded that they finish the job and not think of leaving the fall of the ayatollahs halfway through.
In this context, another ghost appears to Feijóo, that of Mariano Rajoy, who in 2004 saw himself evicted from Moncloa (he was already there as vice-president), due to the management of the 11-M attacks. But it is said that when Rajoy went to see Aznar after the elections, he made a very bitter comment: “You and your damned war!” The phrase that summarizes the Rajoyist vision of life, and which Feijóo shares, is another one that Jesús Posada also said to Aznar: “Less Syria and more Soria”, that is, fewer international dreams and more feet on the ground.
But Aznar did have a dream, which was to turn Spain into a preferred partner of the United States and Great Britain and distance himself from the Franco-German axis and the EU itself. Seen with today's eyes, Aznar would have a geopolitical position similar to that of Viktor Orbán, the number one enemy of the European Union.
The details
Alfonso Rus is one of the best-known faces of the corruption of the Valencian PP and became known for an audio where he counted money: “One thousand, two thousand, three thousand... twelve thousand euros! Two million pesetas!” Now he has reappeared to advertise a local television, Comarcal TV, announcing a supposed contest where he no longer counts money but reproductions: “One thousand, two thousand, three thousand...”
La Moncloa announced Sánchez's appearance on Thursday to announce the government crisis at 6 p.m. and then postponed it to 6:15 p.m. The reason? Well, according to a major exclusive from d'Ok Diario, it turns out that Sánchez was playing a game of chess in a bar in Malasaña, the Gambit Café Madrid, with minister Milagros Tolón, and arrived a little late to make the announcement.
