Marlaska demands explanations from the Director of the Police about a report that would attribute the entry of migrants to Ceuta to Moroccan forces

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has asked the Director General of the Police, Francisco Pardo, to confirm to him "as soon as possible" whether a report attributing the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta on July 30 and 31 to Moroccan Security Forces and Corps is true. As reported by the Interior Ministry, Marlaska has sent a letter to Pardo in which he "requests to be informed about the veracity" of the report that the National Center for Immigration and Borders (CENIF) allegedly sent to the National High Court in this regard, as reported by the media 'El Español'.

If the report is true, the Minister of the Interior asks Pardo to clarify "since when the National Police had this investigation" as he considers it "essential" for the Government to be able to "adopt the appropriate decisions in relation to the migratory crisis in Ceuta in the exercise of the constitutional functions of directing domestic and foreign policy and State defense", his department has specified.

Likewise, Marlaska has reminded the Director General of the Police by letter that, once the situation of national security interest was declared by the Spanish government on August 25, "information like this should have been immediately made available to the members of the National Security Council", of the "single command" led by the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, and also to other bodies with competence in this area.

Despite Marlaska's pressure on the corps, the Spanish government calls for waiting to receive the report before drawing conclusions. Torres himself, in an interview this morning on RNE, asked to wait to "have the document on the table to discuss it with rigor". For the Minister of Territorial Policy, the actions of the head of the Interior have been "adequate" following the information published in 'El Español'; and now it is essential "to know if the Police had this report and since when". In the event that the executive corroborates that this document existed in the terms published, Torres acknowledged that there would be "a responsibility" on the part of Morocco regarding the humanitarian crisis in Ceuta. A responsibility that, he assured, the Spanish government "has never underestimated".

Beyond the possible police information, Torres has assured that he "understands" the "logical anxiety situation" that the population of Ceuta is suffering in full crisis; although he has insisted that "what he does not understand is the violence and the proclamations with insults" that have ignited in recent days. In the short term, Torres hopes that the inhabitants of the autonomous city "will end the day demonstrating that they are an exemplary people", with the demonstrations convened by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

These demonstrations, as Torres recalled, were unilaterally convened by the presidency of the entity, in the hands of the Popular Party, amid criticism from the majority of the political parties that are part of it. In this regard, he has pointed out both the Popular Party and Vox; who, in his opinion, have "been exposed" by these mobilizations. "They did not help when they had to do so in the Congress of Deputies. They voted against distributing unaccompanied minors to other territories," the minister sentenced.

In addition, he has claimed the economic aid of more than 300 million euros announced by the Spanish government to manage the crisis, which "will come into force at the moment the decree is published in the BOE". In this regard, Torres has pointed out the parliamentary groups, which he hopes will "vote in favor" of validating it in the legislative chamber.
