Tourists in Parc Güell, one of the most crowded tourist areas.

The human being you are at home won't improve when you travel. By this I mean that if at home you don't go to museums and see monuments you've never seen (Boí and Taüll, for example) and sometimes eat local cuisine (a sea and mountain restaurant, for example), perhaps you will do so abroad, but without enthusiasm and without critical thinking.

If you've never taken a photo of a market at home, why do you take a photo of a market when you travel? Because of the products there are there that aren't here? But now in the markets there are products from everywhere! Do you have a photo of a sweet potato from Tasmania, but not a photo of a prawn from Palamós next to your house?

We all do different things, of course, when we travel. I, the times I've flown, found it fun to ask for tomato juice, with those little sachets of salt they give you, but I've never done it on land (on land, tomato juice always comes in Bloody Mary form). Some people travel in search of wine, others in search of food, others in search of history, others in search of cheap prices, because every place has things to see. But there are those who travel because they have to.

Traveling is tiring; it's like a day at work. It means you have to keep an eye out (what a pleasure), read incomprehensible signs (what a pleasure), and learn polite words (what a pleasure). Look for a place to eat (what a pleasure). The traveler of the past aspired to avoid detection (what a pleasure). Today's travelers do everything they can to be detected. They photograph apartment buildings, try paellas that will last three days, and take buses to Carmel. What do you expect from him if he doesn't even know what apartment buildings look like at home, always eats sandwiches, and never takes a bus again?
