We read in l'ARA

that the President of the Generalitat, Jordi Pujol, will travel to Madrid on Monday "for a forensic doctor to examine him and certify whether he is fit to remain in the dock." Judge Prada, who is handling the case, said: "The court does not want to fall into ageism, [nor] invalidate the role of the elderly." The defense will not file any new brief because it "considers that the decision has been made and there is no room for modification." He will go to Madrid by car (which he will not be driving, of course).

It's not a question of age, it's a question of mind. President Pujol does not seem to be in condition. Not in the condition he was in. The reason he is being made to go to Madrid is to expose him. So that everyone can satisfy their morbid curiosity as to whether he is well or not, whether he is showing it or not, whether he realizes or not that he is well or not. It is the real penalty. Morning programs debating "with respect" and "with experts" whether his abilities are altered or not, what is senility and how to tell if he is lying. If the judge truly wanted to examine the old man's condition without falling into ageism, he would travel to Barcelona himself. Not have him brought to his home like a Glovo order. If he is brought home and it turns out that he is not, that he is not in condition, what will he do? Send him back. And how will he arrive? To remove ageism, that is to say, discrimination based on age, is free and fallacious. It's like me saying I don't want to fall into sexism, as an excuse to ask that in the entrance tests for the Mossos d'Esquadra, women have to achieve the same physical mark as men. As if he himself were to release the representative of an ethnic minority, even though guilty, to avoid falling into racism.
